Hi! My name is Kate and I am the founder of Eat Talk Learn. I am a speech-language pathologist (SLP), educator, lactation counselor and feeding therapist. I have been lucky to work closely with children of all ages for over a decade. After college, I worked as a classroom teacher, where I realized my passion for working with children with special needs. I went on to earn my Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Teachers College at Columbia University in 2012. Since that time, I have supervised many graduate students and serve intermittently as an adjunct professor at Columbia.

Throughout the course of my career, I have worked with children across the age span in many medical and school-based settings including public, private and charter schools, hospitals, rehabilitation programs, and Early Intervention programs.

My experiences range from working with premature infants in the Neonatal ICU (NICU), to toddlers and preschool aged students in their homes, to school-aged students and teenagers in school and hospital settings. Given my range of experience across educational and medical settings, I believe that I bring a unique and wide lens to the field. I have advanced expertise working with feeding and swallowing disorders, tongue ties, language and speech disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, and executive functioning problems. I am also a Certified Lactation Counselor and worked for years as part of the NICU and PICU feeding teams at an acute care hospital in NYC, where I supported medically fragile infants and their families as they began their feeding journeys. I have evaluated and treated thousands of children with feeding and speech/language difficulties, and have been part of extensive pediatric medical teams and special education teams, working closely with physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, lactation consultants, pediatricians, gastroenterologists, ENT’s, neurologists, early developmental specialists, teachers, and, most importantly, parents and caregivers. I believe that collaboration is key to a child’s success and strive to involve all team members in a child’s treatment plan from the start. I am passionate about supporting and educating families and helping parents create individualized goals for their children. From creating recipes in your kitchen, to making movies in our minds while we read, to playing on the floor with your toddler’s favorite toys (and the dog!), I love to think creatively about how to best engage your child so therapy sessions are always fun and functional. I look forward to bringing my open mind and sense of humor to every session with your child. I believe the relationship between therapist and student is reciprocal, and enjoy learning something from all of the children that I work with. I can’t wait to meet your family and eat, talk and learn together!
